Contractor position. 5-10 hours per week (2 classes per week at 2 hours each plus 2 hours of plan time).


$18 - $21/hour starting rate, based on experience

Job Summary

The Adult Education Instructor will be responsible for teaching the English for Driving class at the Asian Center. They may also be responsible for other types of classes including, but not limited to: Know Your Rights, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy, etc. This includes planning lessons that adapt to the provided curriculum based on the needs of the students, recording and reporting attendance and monitoring grant compliance in accordance with grant requirements.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate weekly lesson plans for the assigned adult education classes
  • Follow curriculum, resources, & tools that will be available on an ongoing basis
  • Record attendance on a Google Sheets spreadsheet
  • Work with other staff to plan for the program, including language and cultural accommodations
  • Attend regular team meetings to plan for the program as needed
  • Utilize Google Slides, Google Docs, and other internet websites in delivering the content of the lessons
  • Track the progress of the students and report their readiness to either transition to the next level of classes or to continue further education
  • Report any specific legal case questions to the Essential Resources Coordinator
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of work performed and outcomes in the form of attendance tracking and any support, as requested, with quarterly grant reporting
  • Successfully complete any required training programs or professional development opportunities as needed
  • Act as a representative of the ACCC in public forums in a positive, knowledgeable, and professional manner

Qualifications

  • Experience working with English language learners and immigrants and refugees
  • Experience teaching in an adult education setting required; preference given to those with experience teaching any of these topics: English, English for Driving, Know Your Rights, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy, Sewing, etc.
  • Experience using Google Suite (Google Drive, Google Slides, Google Docs, etc.) and other internet
  • applications
  • Proficiency in English required
  • Preferred language skills (not required): Pashto, Dari, Farsi and/or Arabic

 

Physical Requirements

Some physical activity, including activities with clients, may be required. Extended periods of sitting in front of a computer.
